Message from Tracey Thomas - Term 2 2017/18
Dear Parents,
Since returning to school following the Christmas break, it’s been non-stop action at BSB. We welcomed many new families in January and have shared many opportunities to come together as a community.
Highlights include the House Carnival Competition which was a huge success in February, with parents and pupils putting on a fantastic display of tradition, teamwork and most importantly, sportsmanship. It was the Romans who clinched victory this year to be named Carnival Champions 2018, however, all the Houses put on incredible performances, building on the previous year’s productions with bigger props, voices and dance routines!
This term we’ve had a key focus on online safety, and led a parent workshop so parents and teachers may work more closely together to educate and support our children. Online safety has always been an integral part of our Computing and PSHE curriculums, for all our pupils. As they get older and technology becomes more accessible, we want to ensure that, as a community, we are as prepared as we possibly can be to monitor, prevent and deal with incidents which adversely affect children’s welfare. Parent response was very positive and prompted further sharing of valuable information and awareness.
In March we were visited by our Senior Academic Advisors Paul Seedhouse and Clair Doubleday. As part of our commitment ensuring we are meeting standards and quality assurance as a school, Mr Seedhouse and Ms Doubleday make regular visits to all BSF schools. They were extremely positive about how we developing and thoroughly enjoyed speaking to our students who they describe as ‘very friendly and eager to share ideas’. We look forward welcoming them back to school on May and hope that you will have the opportunity to spend time with them too.
Ms. McCallum has recently returned from a trip to Moscow to look at the Maths programme being delivered at our former sister school, The International School of Moscow. Her visit was very productive and she has brought back with her a plethora of ideas which we will be working to embed here at BSB in the near future. We wish ISM the best of luck with their transition to NAE, along with some of our other sister schools.
Finally, are looking forward to a spectacular end to the term with our International Day celebration led by our wonderful EFG (Events and Fundraising Group). We have 20 countries being represented this year! The team have worked exceptionally hard to put together a programme of international cuisines, cultural performances and information stands and activities for the whole family to enjoy.
