Message from Tracey Thomas - Term 1 2017/18

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the first edition of our brand new, online newsletter. At the end of each term we will share with you a summary of our news and events as well as articles which will give you a greater insight into various departments and our approaches to teaching and learning.

As I look back at a very successful first term, I cannot help but beam with pride at the hard work and fantastic learning I can see taking place every single day. We’ve had a big push on developing a growth mindset this term (which you can read more about in this article by our Personal Development Coordinator and Year 2 Teacher, Mr Thomas), and can already see students embracing new challenges and striving for high academic achievement.

There have been many highlights already this year including trips and visitors, class assemblies, the House Sports competition, Art Week, the Christmas Fayre and Christmas Concert to name but a few. We have a new EFG board who are working closely with our newly appointed Parent Class Reps and Student Council on a number of charity initiatives, as well as dedicating their time to bringing together the wider BSB community. We have also seen the launch of our PIPs programme (Primary Instrumental Programme) which means all children from Year 1 to Year 5 learn a specific instrument such as the guitar, recorder or keyboard. Lots of the children have already had the opportunity to perform at various events and we look forward to many more performances from all the children, in terms 2 and 3.

Our ASA (After School Activity) programme has also grown this year as we have started to collaborate with a number of external providers to further enrich our pupil’s learning experience. Football has been incredibly popular as have the coding and fencing activities. It is our hope that over the next few months we can further build on these activities by starting to arrange friendly sporting events with other schools and where possible, enter pupils in a variety of competitions.

We’ve also seen the launch of the BSF Parent App which we hope you are finding very useful with regards to accessing key information regarding upcoming events, notices and of course your children’s academic reports.

It’s time now for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Safe travels to those of you heading off on family adventures far and wide. When we return in January, we will be welcoming many new families to BSB to what promises to be an even more action-packed semester.

With very best wishes,
Tracey Thomas
