Science Week 2021
Science Week 2021.
Saturday, May 15, 2021
This year’s Science Week was an exciting affair that involved Science from Monday morning on the 10th May 2021, all the way through to that Friday’s assembly. Science Week was a chance to get children involved in Science, get hands-on practical experience through experiments and to promote the fun that Science can be.
Each morning started with a ‘hands-on’ activity using their bodies to understand some scientific principles such as the centre of gravity and reaction speed. At break times they had some optional games and equipment such as habitat and periodic table puzzles and a pair of can telephones - these helped to reinforce scientific principles they learned through the year. On Wednesday, the school took part in the great biscuit dunking experiment which saw every year group hypothesise, experiment, reflect and draw results - it rolled English, Science and Maths into one big subject and helped answer the age old question: how many dunks can a biscuit take?
Finally, the week culminated with the Science Fair. Children worked hard at home preparing, practising and perfecting their science presentations. The aim was to show any discipline of science, explain it using scientific vocabulary and do so with charisma. Children from Year 1 all the way through to Year 8 presented in front of the whole school and they all got some well earnt certificates for their efforts.
