School Service Launch 2021
School Service launch 2021.
Monday, October 4, 2021
This year, we have launched a new initiative for our Secondary and Primary students called School Service. School Service aims to provide pupils with an opportunity to collaborate on projects that contribute to their school community. Students were given the opportunity to get involved in seven different projects: orchestra, choir, football, volleyball, gardening, newsletter and leadership which they then chose with their mentors and have been taking part in every Wednesday afternoon. In football and volleyball, students have been practising skills needed for each sport so that they are ready to represent the school locally, nationally and internationally when the opportunity presents itself.
Students in orchestra and choir have chosen their songs and are now rehearsing to perfection and we look forward to seeing them perform at upcoming school events. The gardening project has had their work cut out for them as they have needed to do lots of planning of what they want their garden space to look like, how they will build the planters needed to house the plants and what kind of plants will survive and thrive in the Brasilia climate. After discussing what they want the school newsletter to look like, the pupils have begun to collect their stories and interview their fellow pupils and they hope to publish their first newsletter before the October holiday. Students who have chosen leadership will eventually become pupil leaders who will support their peers in the playground, be someone to talk to and even provide extra support for core subjects. For the first few weeks, these pupils have been learning how to interact and support each other, recognising the traits of a true leader and acting out various scenarios so they are well prepared for their role as pupil leaders.
We are very excited to see how these projects grow and develop over the coming year. Students are already taking ownership of these projects and are eager to introduce further School Service initiatives across the school.
