On the 15th March this year 53 of our Year 3, 4 and 5s joined over three hundred thousand students in Brazil, and nearly six million students worldwide, in the Canguru (Kangaroo) mathematics competition. This is a multiple-choice test, which encourages the children to show their skills in problem solving and reasoning and not just arithmetic.

Gold medals are awarded to the children who score in the top 1% in the country and, at BSB, we are both delighted and proud of our gold medal winners, João Milton Saibrosa, Y4; Yasmin Matthews, Y5; Daniel Cho, Y5; Oriol Cirera-Hughes, Y5 and Anna Schneider, Y5.

We are also proud of our silver medal recipients, Matheus Japiassu, Y5; Anna Luisa Heery, Y5; Carolina Cartaxo, Y5 and Gustavo Wambier, Y4. And Felipe Ribeiro from Year 3 received a bronze medal.

This is BSB’s first year participating in the competition and we are aiming for even better results ne
year.
