The British School of Brasilia (BSB) had its first football match on Wednesday, an away fixture against Brasilia International School (BIS). After much speculation about the team in the build-up to the match, the manager, Mr Sousa, opted for a starting lineup of Santiago (Year 6), Rafael (Year 4), Artur (Year 4), Tiago (Year 5) and Felipe (Year 6) with support from the substitutes bench coming in the form of Joaquim Cirera-Hughes (Year 4), Miguel (Year 4), Pietro Matteo Moreira Garcia (Year 4) and João Pedro (Year 5). After a tense opening few minutes, BSB took the lead through Tiago and held on to it confidently until just before the break when BIS equalized and then quickly took the lead. BSB showed great character by equalizing just before the break, through Tiago.
After the break, BSB showed no fear and quickly raced to a two-goal lead through João Pedro – a lead which they held for most of the second half until BIS scored twice in quick succession before adding the killer blow just before the end. Though clearly deflated, the BSB team was gracious in defeat and promised to avenge the result in next week’s home match at BSB.
Manager, Mr Sousa, was proud of all the players who played so well for him in this match and is looking forward to some home support.
