Ms Irina Tuomela

I am a professional Nursery Teacher from Finland, with a University Degree in Early Childhood Education. My academic studies provide a profound understanding on child’s development and the important role of early childhood education. Well-planned and implemented early childhood education creates an essential foundation for life-long learning. In the past, I have worked in various Lead Teacher’s positions in Finnish Nurseries, from Toddler Room to Preschool. In addition, I have also gained valuable experience from international positions and multinational environments in London, United Kingdom and Ankara, Turkey. I am truly passionate about practising high-quality Early Childhood Education, to which The British School of Brasilia provides excellent settings. The core values in my classroom are learning through play, meeting each child as an individual and encouraging everyone’s participation in the group. I am very excited to be a part of our three-member Pre-Nursery team - along with the teacher's assistant and the nanny - and to work in close cooperation with the parents. I joined The British School of Brasilia in 2023. In my spare time, I enjoy the simple things of life, such as reading, exercising and spending time with family and friends. I am a large consumer of Harry Potter literature as well as Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot movies. In Brazil, I have found a new source of passion in growing exotic plants and looking after our newly adopted cats, including orange-furred Mr Carrot.
