Firefighter heroes visit BSB

Our students were treated to an exciting visit from the Brasilia Fire Department as part of the topic on 'People who help us.'

Firefighters were invited into the school to speak to the students about what it is like to be a firefighter and how they help in our community.

First of all we had a very informative question and answer session with the men and women from the Fire Department. Then class by class, we were able to visit the fire truck. The firefighters showed us the different parts of the fire truck and how the lights and sirens work (which was extremely loud!) and we were able to see what it looks like from the inside. Last of all we were able to have a turn at using the big water hose, just like real firefighters!

The children asked some very sensible questions about what life is like as a firefighter, which was valuable information as they begin to think about what they might like to be when they are older. We also learnt a lot of valuable information about what to do in case there is a fire (such as calling 193) and the students were asked to practice their fire evacuation plan at home with their families.
